Inspiration of the Week: Bridal Gowns

This week I chatted about finding the right bridal gown for your bod, and some great places to find THE bridal dress whether new or slightly used, among other things.

What is next? Bridesmaids dresses as bridal gowns! Have you considered it? In this current economic time that many would rather get past, looking at bridesmaids dresses is a great way to save some dinero. The words “bridal gown” alone often add to the price tag. If you want a somewhat simple dress and won’t miss the adornments anyway, look to bridesmaids dresses….

Here are some great bridesmaids dresses that can act as bridal gowns from Dessy, one of my fave designers of bridesmaid attire {nope, I am not paid to say that :) }…

And for those who yearn to go short for their bridal dress….

Since there are so many Dessy styles I like, I devoted this post to them. I will post other bridesmaids dresses, I mean, great BRIDAL dress replacements, from other designers in later posts.

The Academy Awards 2009: Celeb Style + My Faves

The Academy Awards: Entertainment’s biggest night. Another year, another fab sense of style. Future brides-to-be, here are some of my faves + best dressed. Bridal gown inspiration, perhaps?

Three words: one-strap + dazzling.

The one-strap…
As mentioned before, one-strap dresses are, by no surprise, hot this season.
Kate Winslet Heidi Klum
The lovely and always classy award winner, Kate Winslet…and the lovely Heidi Klum in a red origami-esque dress. Heidi also mentioned the Heart Truth Campaign as well. A great campaign that helps bring awareness to women’s heart disease.

The dazzling…
Penelope Cruz
Penelope Cruz wearing my favorite dazzling dress of the night and dress runner-up. Love the look!

Miley Cyrus SJP
Miley Cyrus and SJP…both in great dresses. I would like SJP’s dress/look even more but it just looks a little low/tight in the chest.

Anne Hathaway
The always classy Anne Hathaway. Like the dress for the dazzle and shimmer factor.

Jewelry fave:
The necklace that Amy Adams wore…

Mickey Rourke’s necklace. I liked “The Wrestler” but overall he just seems like a
great guy. I adore how much he talked about and loves
his dog and friend. I love that he always wears a necklace of his late
dog as well..so sweet.

Absolute The look of the night fave: Tiraji P. Henson. The dress, the beautiful necklace, the hair, makeup. Stunning.

Other faves not pictured (not yet posted online): Jennifer Aniston’s great dazzling dress, as well as those of the late Heath Ledger’s Mother and Sister. I also liked Halle Berry’s look as well. All looked great. I will post photos of these if and when available.

Wedding Gowns

I don’t really post that much about wedding dresses but I love this trend this season…in lieu of strapless wedding gowns, more and more designers are creating gowns that are a little, well, more on the conservative side. Recently, the Chicago Tribune did a story on a this new trend as well. I have nothing against strapless wedding gowns but they just weren’t for me and my wedding day…especially since I was married in a Catholic Church and didn’t want myself or my bridesmaids having to do the “strapless dress pull up” while dancing that guys and my parents’ generation always comment on. But it is true, so you can’t blame ‘em …
Check out the following  dresses that are some of my faves for 2009…

Handbags Make My Day

Anyone who knows me knows I love handbags. For some girls it is shoes… for me, it is handbags that consume the walk- in-closet, the over-the-door holder, my suitcase when traveling, you name it.

I came across Dylan & Dillion and their Bridal Collection where they create custom silk screened clutch handbags…perfect for yourself or bridesmaids! What I do know is that I want to get myself one…what I don’t know is what color. If you are looking for a bridal handbag, check them out.

"Platinum Weddings" is back!

The new season of We TV's "Platinum Weddings" started tonight. New episode 1: Couple Joanna & Michael plan a wedding (with celeb wedding planner David Tutera's help) and wed in Philadelphia. New episode 2: Couple Amy & David plan a wedding and wed in Southern California. Get those Tivos or DVRs set if you haven't already.

Trends in Wedding Shoes

A great way to add color is to have cute and colorful wedding shoes. Doing just that is becoming a hot trend this season. I was a traditional bride and wanted off white shoes to match my dress. I loved my shoes with the little crystal corset-type back, but if I were getting married this year, I would definitely have shoes with color.

I love these Solitaire shoes from Stuart Weitzman and would definitely have them if my colors consisted of pink. Check out the Web site for more styles and colors.
