Modern Vintage Design with Black + Antique White – Wedding Inspiration

Sure I love color… but there is such a simplistic elegance with black + white…mainly antique white. Black is such a great addition to a plain, white space or white decor. Because personally, I think all white always needs some sort of boost of color. I created this inspiration piece based around one of my (2) favorite styles – modern vintage. And, the perfect place for such an affair – The Viceroy!

A Spanish Inspired Wedding in Old San Juan

I like the city of San Juan…

What a nice surprise this morning to see these beautiful images from bride Christina’s wedding in Puerto Rico that she sent me. Christina’s vision was to have a Spanish themed wedding in Puerto Rico, where she and her husband Carlos first met. Christina described Old San Juan, Puerto Rico as “a modern day movie set for lovers of all things Spanish.” I certainly agree. I adore the vibrant colors + decor that are uniquely Spanish. It makes me reminisce of my time spent living in Spain watching the flamenco dancers in their bright red attire + doing a little flamenco dancing myself. Olé.

Carlos and Christina had a traditional Catholic service ceremony at El Cathedral de San Juan. The ceremony music was performed by a Spanish guitarist. The reception was at El Convento Hotel where they had a traditional Puerto Rican cigar roller, a Spanish guitarist who played all night, and served Puerto Rican food. The decor consisted of paper flowers (by Anne Musings), candles and carnations. The signs were were all written in Spanish and the place cards were tiles by LH Calligraphy and were later used to write well wishes on for the couple.

Christina’s dress was by Spanish designer San Patrick and her veil was by Elie Saab. The bridesmaids wore veils and gloves to create a more vintage look. The men wore converse shoes, and not just any….they were designed by the groom with Puerto Rico written on the side. The flower girls were spunky in their fun+ non traditional outfits and cute pink converse shoes. And, did I mention there were parasols?… Always love when they’re included!

Pretty, Pretty Parasols

I have always loved parasols. For friend’s East Coast garden wedding over a year ago, she had parasols for the guests to use during out the outdoor ceremony for shade. They were fun + of course made for great photo ops. Having an outdoor wedding? Consider having parasols for props or for your guests to use. Here are some of my favorite guest + bridal party parasol shots….not surprisingly I spotted these all on the Natalie Moser Photography blog – she’s shot some stylish, parasol weddings that’s for sure.

Yellow, Fuschia + Periwinkle Colored Wedding Inspiration

I was thinking yellow + fuschia color inspiration when I received some of these great images below from the sweet Cori Cook of Cori Cook Floral Design of the bouquets + centerpieces she designed, photographed by Karina Heneghan. I like how the blue/periwinkle adds depth + even more variety to the fuschia orchids + flowers. I picture wedding colors like this during the spring, summer or fall at a country club or golf club, or even beachside sipping lemonade with blueberry garnish. I also like how the cake below, photographed by Laurie Peacock, fits in so nicely without being too much color.

A Beautiful Alice in Wonderland-themed Tea Party

Just when I was ready to post some entertaining ideas, I spotted these absolutely lovely images of this Alice in Wonderland-themed Tea Party on the blog of the very talented Adrienne Gunde – whose work and posts I always look forward to.

The tea party was organized by Joanna Chong of Joanna Events for her mother’s birthday. I absolutely love when people use vibrant colors + fun decor like Joanna did – I mean look at these beautiful pictures! Thank you Adrienne for allowing me to share these images with my readers. I can imagine how fun it was to be there! Joanna is just getting started in wedding and event planning, and I would say from the look of this, she has a promising future…

This summer, take the tea party outside + have even more fun!

Ways to Modernize Your Event: Ghost Chairs

This week’s ideas + inspiration will be how to make ‘normal’ more modern. Think of it as a Cliff’s notes of sorts…with some of my current favorites.

What better way to modernize a reception or event space than GHOST CHAIRS. I love the clean look of these chairs + the way they really open up a space [+ draw attention to your tablescapes]. After all, you can literally see through the chairs. The result? Great decor + photos like these from White Lilac Inc. and Barnet Photography, respectively from a recent wedding at one of my favorite LA area venues – The Beverly Hills Hotel [remember this post?]

Vintage Rustic Wedding Floral + Decor

As mentioned earlier in the week, the inspiration this week focuses around a Vintage Rustic affair.
I like the Vintage Rustic aesthetic because to me, it romanticizes normal rustic decor…giving it a boost of loveliness for a wedding. I assembled some centerpiece + decor ideas + inspiration below.

I will highlight a few:
- looking for a centerpiece but not keen on traditional favors? The idea is not new but is a lovely one: use mini potted plants + min floral arrangements for place cards and/or favors. When grouped together, they can make a cute little centerpiece.

- for a more rustic ring bearer pillow, see this one from Luckey U.

- I spotted this DIY rustic cake stand on from Once Wed via Simply Natural.

- to fill that space if you are going light on the flowers, look into Lanterns like those below from Pottery Barn or even mini lanterns + mini centerpieces like in this photo taken by from Mel Barlow.

This week’s inspiration [of the week] ideas focus on beautiful centerpieces- centerpieces in different trendsetting colors schemes. There will be no all-white arrangements here…

Today: coral and green. I love that this color has been big this year because that was my color scheme almost 2 years ago! Oh, how time flies. Needless to say, I love it when done right. I think it is also important to add a tertiary color as well. Many florists will agree for reception centerpieces, to add depth like in the lovely third and fourth centerpieces. But are these first two centerpieces great or what?

Inspiration of the Week: Beautiful Centerpieces

This week’s inspiration [of the week] ideas focus on beautiful bouquets… centerpieces. Each post will focus on centerpieces in different trendsetting colors schemes. There will be no all-white arrangements here!

Originally, I was going to post some great bouquets, but I will save that for next week. Living in So Cal [as well as Chicago], I have had the opportunity to learn more about + see the work of some truly great florists at TV + Film events, including actors’ party’s etc. I don’t want to be that name-dropper girl, so I won’t…but some of the best flower arrangements I have seen have been at some Los Angelenos’ [birthday or other] parties. Unfortunately, I don’t have many photos of them…come on, we all know that person who takes pictures of everything remotely close to a celeb. I am not that girl, nor I am star struck.

Here is some centerpiece inspiration from some of my favorite LA area florists, compliments of their sites + the www.
